Salary: $62,000-$67,000 / Annually
Schedule: Monday - Friday (8:00AM - 4:00PM)
Location: Northport, NY
Employment: Full-time, In-Office
The HR Generalist I supports the Office Manager at PBS in executing daily human resources operations across recruitment, onboarding, payroll processing, benefits administration, employee recordkeeping, and staff communications. This is a full-time, in-office role responsible for ensuring operational HR functions run smoothly, accurately, and in compliance with PBS policies and applicable regulations. The ideal candidate is organized, people-oriented, and eager to grow within a mission-driven behavioral health organization.
Core Responsibilities
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Coordinate and post job openings across platforms; maintain applicant tracking and recruitment calendar
- Screen applicants, schedule interviews, and communicate status updates to candidates
- Prepare offer letters, appointment letters, and new hire packets (welcome materials, training manuals, ID badges)
- Conduct onboarding orientation, walking new hires through HR policies, systems, and compliance requirements
- Maintain outreach partnerships with local universities for job fair and pipeline opportunities
Payroll & Benefits Administration
- Process and audit employee timesheets and contractor invoices on a bi-weekly basis
- Support bi-weekly payroll operations in partnership with the PEO (Justworks); verify withholdings and schedules
- Assist with annual open enrollment for healthcare and retirement benefit programs
- Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for employee benefits questions; escalate complex issues to the Office Manager
- Complete weekly staff audits; track unrendered appointments and follow up as needed
Records, Compliance & Systems
- Maintain accurate physical and digital employee files including I-9 documents, certifications, benefits, and attendance records
- Monitor and track staff credential expirations (licensure, fingerprinting, degrees) via NYS Office of Professions
- Serve as systems administrator for Justworks, Google Workspace, NPA, Remind, and Librarika
- Prepare status change letters, termination paperwork, and other employee communications as directed by the Office Manager
- Conduct routine file and compliance audits; flag gaps to the Office Manager
Employee Engagement & Communications
- Manage the PBS annual HR calendar including staff meetings, training events, and Director meeting logistics
- Support employee engagement initiatives and events under the direction of the Founder
- Assist with monthly newsletter coordination, social media posts, and internal communications
- Collaborate with the Training Director on scheduling and administering workforce development programs (Learnworlds, Librarika)
- Support preparation and logistics for Director meetings and company-wide training sessions
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business Administration, or a related field
- 2-4 years of HR, administrative, or operations experience
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with HRIS or payroll platforms (Justworks, ADP, Gusto, or similar)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Discretion in handling confidential employee information
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with limited supervision
Preferred
- Master’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or a related field
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or aPHR certification (or actively in progress)
- Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification
- Prior experience in healthcare, ABA, or behavioral health organizations
- Familiarity with NYS credentialing requirements and the NYS Office of Professions
- Experience supporting open enrollment and benefits administration
